Travel to Bangkok, where you enjoy sightseeing in the glittering "City of Angels" and Travel to Laos’ calm, Buddhist lifestyle in a quiet world of monks and temples along the majestic Mekong River. Vietnam’s capital Hanoi, a city struggling to establish an identity in the modern world yet still tied to the weight of its history. After sightseeing in the city, travel on to ancient Hue, Danang and thriving Ho Chi Minh City (once known as Saigon) before crossing the border to Cambodia. Here your next stop is Siem Reap, where the hopes and fears of Cambodia’s recent past form a striking contrast with the timeless majesty of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom, monuments to the once mighty Khmer empire.

Days 1 Home City/Bangkok, Thailand

Depart on an overnight flight to Bangkok.

Day 2 Bangkok

Bangkok is one of the most vibrant cities in Southeast Asia, distinctly modern while keeping its Eastern flavor. It has been called the "Venice of the East" for its system of canals, or klongs, traversed by distinctive long-tailed boats. The city is divided into two parts by the Chao Phraya River, with Bangkok proper on the east side and Thonburi on the west. On arrival, you are met and transferred to your hotel is ideally located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River.

Day 3 Bangkok

Begin your exploration of this modern Southeast Asian city by visiting the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the adjoining Grand Palace, two of the most amazing sites in the city. The compound includes over 100 colorful buildings, golden spires, mosaics and the Wat Phra Kaew, Thailand’s most important shrine and where the Emerald Buddha is kept. Little is known about this statue, except that it is actually made of green jade or jasper. This evening, join fellow travelers at a festive welcome cocktail party and dinner.

Day 4 Bangkok/Luang Prabang, Laos

Fly to charming Luang Prabang. Climb Phoussy Hill to visit Phoussy Temple and to enjoy a panoramic vista of this UNESCO World Heritage city.

Day 5 Luang Prabang

Take part in a food offering to the local Buddhist monks. Sightseeing today includes stops at the Pak Ou caves Thamting and Thamphoum, as well as Wat Longkhoun and the village of Ban Xanghai.

Day 6 Luang Prabang

This morning, explore the Royal Palace Museum, local market and Kuang Si Waterfall. Following an afternoon at leisure, you are honored with a Laotian baci (welcome) ceremony.

Day 7 Luang Prabang/Hanoi, Vietnam

After a morning at leisure, fly to Hanoi, the cultural heart of Vietnam that still bears the traces of centuries of changing cultures and dynasties.

Day 8 Hanoi

Visit Ho Chi Minh’s house, One Pillared Pagoda, Quanh Tanh Temple and the Fine Arts Museum. Later, travel by cyclo through the Old Quarter. This evening, enjoy a traditional water puppet show.

Day 9 Hanoi

Journey to scenic Ha Long Bay, the "Bay of the Descending Dragon," for a cruise among its scenic grottoes and islands.

Day 10 Hanoi/Hoi An

Arrive in Danang and transfer to the Nam Hai on pristine China Beach. Your afternoon includes a sunset boat trip in the small traditional town of Hoi An.

Day 11 Hoi An

The day is yours to enjoy the amenities of your luxurious villa.

Day 12 Hoi An/Ho Chi Minh City

Fly to Ho Chi Minh City. Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City. Visit the Thien Hau Pagoda in the colorful Chinatown of Cholon.

Day 13 Ho Chi Minh City

Explore the Cu Chi tunnel network, one of the most notorious battlefields of the Vietnam War.

Day 14 Ho Chi Minh/Siem Reap, Cambodia

Fly to Siem Reap. Begin your exploration of the treasures of the Angkor complex with Angkor Thom, Bayon Temple, Elephant and Leper King Terraces and Ta Prohm.

Day 15 Siem Reap

Explore two less-visited areas: Banteay Srei and Banteay Samre. Sunset finds you at Angkor Wat. Tonight, join your fellow travelers for a farewell dinner.

Day 16 Siem Reap/Bangkok/Home City

Transfer to the airport to board your homebound flight via Bangkok or travel on to another destination in the Orient. China Holidays can help you plan your own extension, "tailor-made" as you require. (B)
