The elegant lotus flower, rising in triumph from the mud of everyday life, is a symbol of the Buddhist religion and extension, a symbol of the countries visited on this fascinating itinerary. Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar have all been deeply influenced by the teachings of Buddha, though the varied modes each culture finds to express its faith is one of the joys of this program.

The Golden Lotus begins with a brief stop in Bangkok, Thailand, visits Cambodia’s Siem Reap-stepping-off place for the archaeological treasures of Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and the Bayon Temple. You then fly to Myammar - for years known as Burma – is an enigma to most Western travellers. Until very recently this large, politically socialist and profoundly Buddhist country had voluntarily shut itself off from the rest of the world. Its gilded doors are now opened, eager to show its treasures to an appreciative world.
